The moment I walked into the space at 2218, a stroke of inspiration hit me like opening blackout curtains after a night of partying. It was electrifying. It was clear. I knew I was a yes to finding a way to make it happen.
The seven bold colors invite you into the space and tease you to venture further, maybe even down the hall. Each colored stripe gathers energy with the explosion of energy in the form of a portrait at each egress and ingress.
The stripes continue to line their way down the long hallway with the seven portals to each creative workshop. Each of the stripes steps out of marching alignment with its siblings, in turn, to interact with each of the seven doors. This pathway to share and receive creative energy connects each of the studios in a vibrating loop with the energy from the outside world, the seeds I planted with my expressive paintings, and the energy from each studio.
The two portraits are each of the humans I've met in my travels. The southern portrait is of an actress working in LA whose dream is to be one of the first famous Black trans movie stars. The north wall is a portrait of a man I met at Element 11, the regional burning man event held on the salt flats of Utah. His outfit included a cowboy hat, leopard print jacket, pink tutu skirt, and cowboy boots.
Both these humans interfuse a pure creative force of energy beyond the masculine and feminine. It's a deeper energy that is the same energy that connects all of us when engaged in creative expression.
May this mural bless all who work and play here with unlimited creativity.
