Industrial Tractor Paint 🚜 - My first big portrait on canvas.
Transfixed. Staring into night.
Dazed. The need to sink into darkness rapidly growing larger than they need for life. The darkness is creeping in. Will daylight come in time?
The night brings power with the terror. Will I ever come back from this darkness? Can I endure the floods that will come if I crack open the door to these feelings an inch? I will be overcome. I am already lost.
This portrait is painted with super-shiny industrial tractor paint on a triptych of stretched canvas. Allis Chalmers Orange, Gloss Blue, Gloss Black, and Gloss White are the only colors I used. I did most of the color mixing on canvas. There are portraits coming to me in my dreams that are begging me to be let out. It’s a fire that keeps my creativity always high.
My job is to balance the mundane of life of making art with this fire that seeks to consume me. That is what being an artist is for me: holding the fires of rage and despair back so they don’t consume me. Holding back just enough to keep the fire ranging still.
At six feet tall, this is the tallest portrait I’ve ever painted, and it opened up even bigger work that came after. I loved the way the canvas took abuse and the paint. This figure wants a bigger stage.
Do you have a fire in you begging to be let out? Do you know the feeling of being contained in an inner night-fight?
Celebrate all of you by inviting this powerful painting into your space.
